White-Sox Forum: Authentic 1917 White Sox Baseball
Posted by: KLD (shakeek1@ThisIsToPreventSpam-494-RemoveThis.yahoo.com) on 5 Dec 2003 at 12:46:23 AM
Hello Sox Fans,I recently found what I believe to be an original 1917 Chicago White Sox hat buried in a box of old hats at my local flea market. The hat is wool(white with navy blue pin stripes) with 6 segments. The O & the X of Sox are cradled within the curves of the S. The small, crescent shaped bill is navy blue.
It looks as though the original band was replaced by a leather one. I suspect that the round nub/topper was also replaced because the tack securing it looks a little tooo good to be true. Otherwise I strongly believe it is authentic. It has an old smell to it and the original netting and if you flip back the new band you can see remnants of the old one. Unfortunbately, it has quite a substantial moth hole 1" x 1/4". This moth was hungry! The "hole" is located
at the edge next to the back seam
I am not a baseball afficianado so, I therefore have no clue as to what the value would be for such a hat if it is indeeed, as I suspect it to be, the real deal.
Any info that anyone can give would be much appreciated. I'd be willing to send pics to the curious. Thanks!

Since you're a human being, not a bot, you can easily obtain the real address by removing the text that says "ThisisToPreventSpam-XYZ-RemoveThis." including the random number XYZ and the period at the end. For example, <info@ThisIsToPreventSpam-123-RemoveThis.interesting.com> would become <info@interesting.com>.
