Braves Forum: Warren Spahn

This story of Warren Spahn's kindness was told to me by my older brother Alden. It was the early 1950's. We were visiting Malden, Mass. Alden, about 13 at the time and a cousin went to Warren's house to meet him. They knocked on his door and introduced themselves to Warren. He took them both to the Braves ballpark to see a game. Alden got a baseball with all the Braves signatures. My dad said, "Don't ever do anything to that ball, it'll be worth something someday." Alen kept it for about one year. Then one day when we wanted to play baseball, without having a ball, we used the Braves ball. We played with that ball until the cover came off. Oh well, so much for listening to dad.
Alden died in 1999. I thought his story of Warren's kindness should be told.

If the person posting this message left their e-mail address, we inserted some random characters to prevent spammers from harvesting their address. Spammers do this with automated "bots" that constantly search the Web looking for e-mail addresses. Since you're a human being, not a bot, you can easily obtain the real address by removing the text that says "ThisisToPreventSpam-XYZ-RemoveThis." including the random number XYZ and the period at the end. For example, <info@ThisIsToPreventSpam-123-RemoveThis.interesting.com> would become <info@interesting.com>.
